The Nyungwe canopy walk is one of Rwanda’s most memorable experiences and the only canopy walkway in East Africa. Suspended high above the floor of Nyungwe Forest National Park, this raised walkway gives visitors a bird’s-eye view over one of Africa’s oldest rainforests.

The experience

The canopy walkway stretches around 160 metres and reaches some 50 metres above the ground, gently swaying as you cross. From this vantage point you look out over an endless sea of green, with the chance to spot birds, butterflies and primates moving through the treetops. Guides share insights into the forest’s remarkable ecology along the way.

Getting there

The canopy walk is reached via the Igishigishigi Trail, a scenic forest walk that forms part of the experience. It is suitable for reasonably fit visitors and is one of the park’s most popular activities.
