Lowland Gorillas Kahuzi Biega National Park

Kahuzi-Biega National Park in eastern DR Congo is the only place in the world where travellers can reliably track the eastern lowland gorilla, also known as Grauer’s gorilla – the largest of the four gorilla subspecies. This UNESCO World Heritage Site offers a rare and rewarding primate adventure.

The Grauer’s gorilla

Larger and stockier than mountain gorillas, Grauer’s gorillas are found only in the eastern DRC. Several habituated families live within Kahuzi-Biega, and trekking to see them takes visitors deep into lush lowland rainforest.

The trekking experience

Treks are generally less strenuous than mountain gorilla treks, as the terrain is flatter. Along the way you may also encounter other primates, forest birds and the park’s rich plant life.
