Congo Gorilla Trekking in the Democratic Republic of Congo

The best time to visit DR Congo for gorilla trekking and volcano climbing is during the two dry seasons: June to September and December to February. These months offer firmer trails, easier access and more comfortable trekking conditions in Virunga and Kahuzi-Biega.

Dry seasons (June–September, December–February)

Drier weather makes forest trails less slippery and treks more manageable, while clearer skies improve the Nyiragongo experience. These are the most popular and reliable months to travel.

Wet seasons

The rainy months bring lush scenery but muddier, more challenging trails. Gorilla trekking remains possible year-round, but rain gear is essential.

Planning and safety

DR Congo travel requires careful planning with an experienced operator who monitors conditions and handles permits and logistics.
