This Kidepo Valley National Park Safari ventures into Uganda’s true African wilderness – the remote, breathtaking Kidepo Valley in the far northeast, near the South Sudan border. Almost untouched and ringed by mountains, Kidepo is consistently rated one of Africa’s finest wilderness parks, rewarding the journey north with outstanding game viewing in the Narus Valley, ancient Nyero rock paintings, the Kanangarok hot springs, hikes through the Lomej mountains, and authentic cultural encounters with the Karamojong and IK people. Day-by-Day Itinerary

Kampala to Kidepo (via Gulu & Kitgum)
A full-day scenic drive north through Gulu and Kitgum, glimpsing local life along the way, arriving at Kidepo Valley National Park to check in and overnight. Prefer to save time? A scheduled fly-in option is available, reaching Kidepo in around two hours. The ancient Nyero rock paintings can be visited en route on the overland journey.

Narus Valley Game Drive & Karamojong Encounter
A full day exploring the wildlife-rich Narus Valley among elephants, buffaloes, lions, jackals, ostriches, and the region’s famous rock-perched leopards. In the afternoon, enjoy a cultural encounter with the native Karamojong people and their fascinating traditions.

Lomej Mountains Hike, Birding & Hot Springs
Hike through the Lomej mountains and the Narus Valley, meeting the IK tribe, with a birding excursion around Apoka and the valley fringes (Kidepo records over 470 bird species). Optionally drive to the far north of the park to discover the Kanangarok hot springs, the park’s most permanent water source.

Game Drive & Transfer South (via Sipi Falls or Gulu)
A final morning game drive in Kidepo, then begin the journey south. Choose to overnight near the scenic three-tier Sipi Falls on the foothills of Mount Elgon, or transfer via Gulu, depending on your chosen route.

Return to Kampala (optional Ziwa Rhino tracking or Sipi Falls)
Complete the journey back to Kampala. Depending on your route, enjoy a Sipi Falls hike in the morning, or stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino tracking on foot – the perfect way to complete the African Big Five – before arriving in Kampala.
