The Marangu Route is known as the “easiest” way up Kilimanjaro – and the only route where you sleep in well-built mountain huts the whole way – but make no mistake: at nearly 6,000 m this remains a demanding mountain trek. The great advantages are comfort and acclimatization: two nights at the Horombo Hut with a day-hike to the striking Zebra Rocks (about 4,000 m) give your body the adjustment it needs before summit night.
Expect a scenic journey through every vegetation zone – rainforest, moorland, alpine desert – with impressive views of Kibo and Mawenzi, sunrise at Gilman's Point (5,681 m), and the final push to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). Six days of trekking, 4–7 hours daily; group size 2–10.

Karibuni! Airport pick-up, transfer to Moshi, afternoon briefing and luggage repacking (max 12 kg per person carried by porters, weighed by the park authority). Dinner and overnight at a mid-range hotel.
Meet your crew at Marangu Gate, register, and hike about 4 hours through dense rainforest – lichens trailing from the trees, colobus monkeys overhead – to the Mandara Huts in a forest clearing. An optional stroll to the nearby Maundi Crater rounds off the day.
The vegetation lowers into moorland as you pass the famous Kilimanjaro senecios, with a first view of Kibo's mighty summit if the weather allows. Lunch at the old “rainmakers’” picnic spot of Kimangi Marangu, then on to Horombo by early afternoon (5–6 hours), finishing with a short acclimatization walk.
Hike toward Mawenzi past the strikingly striped Zebra Rocks (4,200 m), optionally continuing toward Mawenzi Hut (4,350 m), before returning to Horombo – about 5–6 hours that make all the difference on summit night.
Cross the transition from moorland into the stark alpine desert of the Kibo Saddle – only heather, everlastings, and finally lichens – reaching the Kibo Huts by early afternoon (about 7 hours). Early dinner and early to bed.
Setting off between midnight and 1 am, climb steadily (“pole pole!”) through lava sand and scree to reach Gilman's Point (5,681 m) at sunrise. Those with strength continue about 2 hours to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). After summit photos and hot tea, descend – gloriously fast in the soft lava sand – via Kibo Hut to Horombo (12–14 hours total).
Down through moorland and rainforest (5–6 hours) with a break at Mandara, farewell to your crew at the gate, and the drive to Moshi – finally a warm shower! Celebration dinner and overnight.
