Mabamba Wetland - A Birding Paradise

The Mabamba Swamp stretches through a long narrow bay on the western edge of Lake Victoria, forming an extensive marshland surrounded by dense papyrus vegetation.

Since being designated a Ramsar wetland in 2006, the swamp has gained international recognition among birding enthusiasts. Over 260 bird species have been recorded here, with birdwatchers sometimes spotting more than 150 species in a single day.

Apart from the famous Shoebill Stork, Mabamba is also a key habitat for the migrant Blue Swallow, with more than 100 individuals recorded annually.
