Detailed Itinerary
Your Rwanda gorilla adventure begins upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, where you will be warmly welcomed by your professional safari driver-guide. After a short briefing about your upcoming safari, you will begin the scenic drive northwest toward Volcanoes National Park.
The journey, which takes approximately two and a half hours, passes through Rwanda’s beautiful countryside characterized by rolling hills, terraced farms, and vibrant rural communities—one of the reasons the country is famously known as the Land of a Thousand Hills.
Upon arrival near the park, you will check in at your lodge and enjoy a relaxing evening surrounded by the stunning backdrop of the Virunga Mountains.

After an early breakfast, your guide transfers you to the park headquarters in Kinigi for a pre-trek briefing by park rangers. During the briefing, you will learn about gorilla behavior, trekking rules, and conservation efforts that protect these endangered primates.
You will then be assigned to one of the habituated gorilla families, with a maximum of eight visitors per group. Accompanied by experienced ranger guides, you will begin your trek through the lush bamboo forests and volcanic terrain in search of your designated gorilla family.
The trek can last anywhere from two to six hours depending on the location of the gorillas. Once you encounter them, you will spend one magical hour observing the gorillas as they feed, groom, and interact within their family group.
After this unforgettable encounter, you will return to the park headquarters and then transfer back to your lodge for relaxation.

Today presents another incredible opportunity to trek gorillas in Volcanoes National Park.
Following breakfast, you return to the park headquarters for a second briefing before embarking on another trek. This time you will visit a different gorilla family, allowing you to observe new personalities, behaviors, and social structures within the group.
This second trekking experience often provides deeper insight into gorilla life and allows travelers to fully appreciate the uniqueness of these endangered primates.
After the trek, you return to your lodge for relaxation and to reflect on the remarkable experiences of the past two days.

After breakfast, you will depart Volcanoes National Park and begin your scenic return journey to Kigali.
Depending on your departure schedule, your guide may take you on a short Kigali city stop where you can visit local craft markets or souvenir shops to purchase handmade Rwandan crafts.
You will then be transferred to Kigali International Airport for your onward international flight.
