Detailed Itinerary

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by your professional safari guide and transferred to your hotel in Kigali.

Kigali is one of Africa’s cleanest and safest cities, offering visitors a glimpse into Rwanda’s remarkable transformation and development. After check-in, relax at the hotel and prepare for the adventure ahead.

Dinner and overnight in Kigali.

After breakfast, begin the day with a guided tour of Kigali including a visit to the moving Kigali Genocide Memorial, which provides deep insight into Rwanda’s history and resilience.

The journey then continues south toward Nyungwe Forest National Park, one of Africa’s oldest rainforests. Along the way, stop in Butare to visit the Rwanda National Museum and enjoy lunch.

Later visit the Murambi Genocide Memorial Centre before continuing through scenic tea plantations to Nyungwe.

Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge or Gisakura Guesthouse.

Rise early for an exciting chimpanzee trekking experience in the dense forests of Nyungwe Forest National Park. Nyungwe is home to more than 13 primate species and offers one of Africa’s best chimpanzee tracking experiences.

Guided by expert trackers, you will hike through the forest in search of chimpanzee communities. The sounds of the jungle, birds, and primates create a truly immersive rainforest adventure.

Later in the afternoon, venture deeper into the forest to observe large troops of black-and-white colobus monkeys, often seen moving gracefully through the treetops.

Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge.

After breakfast, depart Nyungwe and travel north toward Volcanoes National Park, the home of Rwanda’s mountain gorillas.

Along the way, stop for lunch in Gisenyi, a beautiful lakeside town located on the shores of Lake Kivu.

Continue to the foothills of the Virunga Volcanoes where you will check in at your lodge near Kinigi.

Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Nest Lodge or similar.

After an early breakfast, proceed to the park headquarters for a briefing before embarking on your gorilla trekking adventure in Volcanoes National Park.

Accompanied by ranger guides, trek through the bamboo forests of the Virunga Mountains in search of one of the habituated gorilla families. Once located, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing these gentle giants as they interact within their family groups.

In the afternoon, visit the vibrant Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to learn about Rwanda’s traditional heritage and local customs.

Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Today you will hike through the forests between Mount Karisimbi and Mount Bisoke to reach the Dian Fossey Grave.

The late Dian Fossey dedicated nearly two decades to studying and protecting mountain gorillas in Rwanda. This trek offers a meaningful insight into her conservation work and legacy.

The hike passes through bamboo forests and afro-montane vegetation with chances of spotting forest wildlife along the way.

Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

After breakfast, depart for Akagera National Park, Rwanda’s only savannah national park located along the border with Tanzania.

The drive passes through Kigali where you will stop for lunch before continuing east toward Akagera’s beautiful lakes and savannah plains.

Dinner and overnight at Akagera Safari Lodge.

Begin the day with an early morning game drive across the savannah landscapes of Akagera National Park. The park is home to elephants, giraffes, zebras, lions, leopards, buffaloes, and the recently reintroduced black rhinos.

In the afternoon, enjoy a relaxing boat cruise on Lake Ihema, where you can observe hippos, crocodiles, and numerous bird species along the lake shores.

Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

After breakfast, enjoy a guided nature walk around the scenic crater lakes of the park. This peaceful excursion allows you to appreciate Rwanda’s landscapes and birdlife.

Later in the afternoon, embark on another game drive to observe wildlife during the cooler hours when animals are most active.

Dinner and overnight at Akagera Safari Lodge.

After breakfast, depart Akagera National Park and return to Kigali.
