Detailed Itinerary

Your Rwandan adventure begins upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, where you will be warmly welcomed by our professional safari guide. After a short briefing, you’ll be transferred to your hotel for check-in and time to relax.

Later in the day, enjoy a guided Kigali city tour, exploring the heart of Rwanda’s vibrant capital. Visit key historical and cultural landmarks, including the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre, local markets, and scenic city viewpoints that offer insight into Rwanda’s past, present, and inspiring future.

After breakfast, set off on a picturesque drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park, one of Africa’s most important rainforest ecosystems. The journey takes you through Rwanda’s rolling countryside, offering beautiful landscapes and authentic local encounters.

Along the way, visit Nyanza, the former royal residence of Rwanda’s Kings (Mwami), followed by a stop at the National Museum of Rwanda in Butare, renowned for its rich ethnographic collections. Enjoy lunch en route before continuing south toward Nyungwe Forest.

Arrive at your lodge surrounded by nature, where you can unwind and prepare for the exciting primate trekking experience the following day.

Wake up early for a hearty breakfast before heading to the park headquarters for a briefing on chimpanzee trekking guidelines.

Enter the lush rainforest in search of the habituated chimpanzees, Rwanda’s most energetic primates. Trekking through Nyungwe Forest offers an exceptional opportunity to observe chimpanzees in their natural habitat, along with sightings of other primates, forest wildlife, and colorful bird species.

Return to the lodge for lunch, then later enjoy the unforgettable Nyungwe Canopy Walk. Suspended high above the forest floor, the walkway provides breathtaking panoramic views of the rainforest, valleys, and surrounding hills.

After breakfast, depart Nyungwe for a scenic drive to Lake Kivu, Rwanda’s largest and most beautiful lake, nestled among green hills and mountains.

Continue to Gisenyi (Rubavu) via the stunning Kibuye Road, one of Rwanda’s most scenic routes. Along the way, observe daily rural life, including terraced farms, tea plantations, lakeside villages, and vibrant local communities.

In the afternoon, enjoy a relaxing boat ride on Lake Kivu, exploring small islands and spotting diverse birdlife while soaking in the tranquil atmosphere.

After an early breakfast, drive to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze Province, home to Rwanda’s iconic mountain gorillas.

Upon arrival at Kinigi Park Headquarters, attend a detailed briefing on gorilla trekking rules and safety. You’ll then be assigned a gorilla family and transferred to the trek starting point.

The trek through the bamboo forest and volcanic slopes may take 1 to 6 hours, depending on the gorillas’ location. Once found, you will spend a magical hour observing these gentle giants in their natural environment — an emotional and unforgettable wildlife encounter.

Later in the day, you may visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to experience traditional Rwandan culture, music, and storytelling.

After breakfast, explore the stunning Twin Lakes of Burera and Ruhondo, located at the base of the Virunga Volcanoes. Enjoy spectacular views of the volcanic mountains reflected in the calm lake waters.

After this scenic experience, transfer back to Kigali, with a drop-off at the airport for your international departure flight, bringing your unforgettable Rwandan primate adventure to an end.
