Knowing the best time to visit Kenya helps you make the most of your safari. Kenya is a year-round destination, but the timing of your trip affects wildlife viewing, the Great Migration, birding, crowds and cost.

Dry seasons (June–October, January–February)

These are the best months for game viewing. Vegetation thins, wildlife gathers around water, and the Great Migration reaches the Masai Mara between July and October. Skies are clear and roads are good, though parks are busier and prices higher.

Green seasons (March–May, November)

The long rains (March to May) and short rains (November) bring lush scenery, newborn animals, excellent birding and far fewer crowds at lower prices. Some remote roads can be tricky, but game viewing remains good.

Best for the migration

For the Mara River crossings, plan for August to September. Book well ahead, as this is peak season.
